Getting a microchip

Our F1 (first generation) captive bred female adult Sicilian western Hermann’s from Madonie locale finally got her micro chip!  This will identify her with a Stud book number and make it impossible for her to be mistaken for another tortoise.  A micro chip implant is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of an animal. The chip (about the size of a large grain of rice) uses passive RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, which is also known as a PIT (Passive Integrated Transponder) tag.  A microchip implant is a passive RFID device, meaning it is lacking an internal power source, and remains inert until the scanner or other power source powers it.
